Hard Facts about Craft Fairs

By Sive Iver

At the start of our craft career we started just by doing something we love and one of our friends who saw the product decided to buy our craft. For most of us we started by selling to our families and friends. Then from the positive responses we got from our friends and family it encouraged us to start a small business.

At the start of your small business you might not have to face the reality that you will need to market your craft. Because on the first few craft shows that you attended your family and friends were still there to support. But once you decide to go to a bigger market or crafts show you will need to face the fact that you need to do some marketing.

Remember we are craft makers and not a big name company. This may be hard to accept but we are just starting our business. We therefore do not have the resources our fund to advertise our craft. We do not have the college employee or office division to think for us on how to advertise our craft.

Unlike big corporations that have huge funds to support their products, we the craft makers must survive without assistance. We will need to develop one basic principle and that is to be self-reliant. We do not only have to make the perfect craft but have to sell our craft.

We have to face the facts that not only are we suppose to sell our product. But we will need to sell a little bit of our individuality. This is not just learning how to put on a fake smile every time it is needed, but must learn how to have an ongoing pleasant and easy going interaction with everyone we face.

We have to learn from the time we open our booth to have a pleasant atmosphere to greet our customers. This means that what ever negative emotions must be dealt with to have a positive impression to our customers. We will need to be actively involved with our customer and craft for us to sell. - 20767
