Before, I am really curious and clueless if "Uglydolls" by David Horvath and Sun-Min Kim really exist. I just heard of them from some friends and did not get the chance to see them. I guess it is just natural for me to think that way as it is a bit absurd to think there are people who will create and eventually sell things are that are ugly. To my surprise, I tried to do a search online and I found out that Uglydolls by David Horvath and Sun-Min Kim really exist. They do since 2002 and were actually distinguished by many because they balance traditional cuteness with ugliness. In 2006, "Uglydolls" of the two toy designers were awarded by Toy Industry of America as the Specialty Toy of the Year.
The first time I saw the "Uglydolls" by David Horvath and Sun-Min Ki online, I found them cute. Despite their unusual look, there is cuteness in them considering they are small plush toys. I also found them as toys that kids will enjoy. Parents will enjoy them too as they will get good value for their money as they are handmade and so durable.
Ever since 2002, "Uglydolls" have been purely handmade. Sun-Min Kim started everything. At first, Little Uglys, Giant Uglydolls, plush key chains, and vinyl Uglydolls were introduced in the market.
Right now, "Uglydolls" are still purely handmade but their production is now in mainland China. It is believed that it is their being purely handmade ever since which have made them distinct from other dolls. Because they have been purely handmade, each doll features little variations, adding to dolls' uniqueness. For every doll, there is small tag which tells about the doll's notable personality.
These dolls are being sold at some independent and specialty toy stores. There is still an issue with regards to their availability in mainstream outlets however just recently, they were seen at some mainstream stores like Nordstrom, Urban Outfitters and other big chains. Well, the issue should be solved right away to help enhance status of "Uglydolls" in the market. - 20767
